- Although not your traditional buying season, the Detroit News lays out why the winter might be an optimal time for homebuyers to make a move.


- From, a list of how much income is needed to purchase a median-priced home. For St. Louis, the site estimates you'd need to make at least $25,228 annually, which is the third-lowest required salary they list. 

- From the Wall Street Journal: A Goldman Sachs report concludes that lending rules could have cut mortgage defaults in half during the housing bust.


St. Louis links

- At 10:30 this morning IKEA will make it official that it's coming to St. Louis by announcing its plans to build a store in Midtown.

- Maplewood landlord Rob Birenbaum is planning further expansion in the area as the municipality has become a hotbed for local businesses.

- On Tuesday, construction officially began on the Whole Foods store and City Walk in the Central West End. City officials are calling this a "game-changer" for the area.
